Frequently Asked Questions

  • From first contact to delivery is typically about 3 months, but it can vary greatly. We’re a small business so it all depends on how much work we have booked. We schedule all work in order of deposits received and we only work on one project at a time, so every piece gets our full attention. So, sometimes it may be 1 month and sometimes it may be 5 months. When speaking with a new potential customer, we try to give a rough estimate of cost and delivery date as soon as we can. We strive for excellence, not speed. We do not cut corners, unless you want them rounded off. We aren’t the fast food of furniture, we’re the 5 star fine dining.

  • We guarantee the highest level of craftsmanship and service. We are a local small business so we rely on our reputation of honesty, integrity, and trust with our clients and that’s why we’re still in business today. Wood is a natural living material, it contains natural defects and variations. Wood also moves with the seasons and years, we account for this as much as possible. Over time as your furniture goes through life we are happy to offer repairs and refinishes at a discounted price for all of our past clients.

  • The options are endless! This is one of the best parts of commissioning custom furniture. It also works great if you have inspiration pictures as a starting point.

    Stain-

We typically do not use stains to alter the natural color of the wood. Different hardwoods naturally have different colors. For example, Walnut is a chocolatey dark brown, Cherry is a medium brown, Oak is a light brown, Maple is very light closer to light tan. Other woods are not only different shades of brown but there are also exotic woods that are black, yellow, purple, greenish, red, and so on. We prefer to use a wood that is the color you’re looking for. However, we will use certain stain if specially requested. If we do, we use one of these stains. For reference, the “Pure” color is the clear version that we typically use.

    Wood Finish-

There are endless options and opinions when it comes to different types of wood finishes. We use a finish called Rubio Monocoat. This clear finish seals and protects the wood at the same time as enhancing the natural look of the wood. This finish was originally designed for hardwood flooring so it’s more than durable enough for wood furniture. A huge advantage of this finish is it’s repairability. Most wood finishes require an entire piece to be stripped of finish to repair any spot, but with Rubio Monocoat we have the ability to spot repair furniture. Most finishes, like polyurethane work by building up layers of plastic film on the woods surface, whereas Rubio Monocoat forms a molecular bond with the wood to protect and seal the wood and retain the natural look and feel of the wood. Wood Species-

We use most any wood species that are available- domestic and exotic. Our most regularly used woods are Black Walnut, White Oak, Hard Maple and Black Cherry.(Side note, American Black Cherry is a domestic species traditionally used for fine furniture, it is not red. It is medium brown.) We do not use Pine unless it will be covered with a glass top, even then we do not recommend it because it is a very easily damaged. We will be happy to recommend wood species based on your color preference, wood hardness, stability and cost. We do not use “barnwood.”

    Design Style-

People often ask, “What style furniture do you build?” We always respond with, “Our style is your style!” We build everything custom to our clients preferences, not our own. We are fully equip and happy to build in any style.
